Welcoming Semester 2 of the 2021-2022 Academic Year, Volume 1: January!

Hi Eagles!

First of all, the OSIS team would like to say Merry Christmas to all of you who are celebrating, and we’d also like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, may you all have a prosperous year ahead! As the holiday season has ended, we are all excited to be coming back to school still applying the HMI (Hybrid Model of Instruction) system where students are allowed to go to school physically and even as of 10 January 2022, it is now mandatory for students from Grade 10 to 12 to attend face-to-face school and the OSIS team does encourage everyone to come back to school to learn together with your friends face to face!

This is an image of what has been happening on the 10th of January 2022 and 11th of January 2022 where Grade 10-12 students are coming back to face to face school while applying proper health protocols.

This upcoming semester, the OSIS team will be holding multiple interesting and exciting events that hopefully will encourage all of you to join! An event that will be happening during the first term of the second semester is the SCD (Sekolah Ciputra Decathlon). The SCD will be hosted by the External Events Department that is being led by Nabil Ahmad Waifiuddin & Victoria Ashley Pramoko. A quote from both of them states that “The Sekolah Ciputra Decathlon is a national level competition that is open to any highschool student. Students can choose to participate in one or more of 6 events: English Debates, English Essay Writing, English Speech Video, English Olympiad, Civics Olympiad and Science Olympiad. Students have the chance to win up to 1.5 million rupiah and a medal. Students can improve their academic ability and test their skills in answering different problems.” We hope that all of you would like to participate in this competition and support OSIS by being involved in this competition. By participating in this competition, students will be able to compete for prize money, certificates and medals. They will also be able to enhance their skills such as debate skills, public speaking skills, collaboration skills and many more useful skills.

We will also be celebrating Chinese New Year in the upcoming weeks. Another event that will be held in the upcoming months is the MUN (Model United Nations) competition which is not an OSIS event. A quote from the MUN Coordinator of Sekolah Ciputra, Mr. Stuart Ratcliffe states that the "Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations (UN). Students discuss, debate and come up with solutions for worldwide problems ranging from gender inequality, sustainable development, refugee management, humanitarian and social issues." By participating in this competition, students will be able to develop knowledge about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations in general. A quote from one of this year’s MUN committee states that "this year's SCMUN plans to bring various different visions to life through solving current and post-pandemic global issues in a cooperative and engaging manner." This specific event will bring many personal benefits such as training your public speaking skills, negotiating skills, collaborating skills, getting to know new friends and many more!

The poster on the left side of the collage was a poster advertising last year's MUN while the images on the right side of the collage are photos from the MUN event that happened in the year 2018.

Another event that will be held in this year’s academic year is the CGT. For those of you who don’t know, or possibly still remember, CGT (Ciputra’s Got Talent) is a talent show competition where students can participate and showcase their talent. In last year’s CGT, Shannon Patricia won first place by presenting a marvelous dance act. By participating in this competition, students will showcase their talents and compete for exciting prizes. Talents that you are allowed to showcase in CGT are singing, dancing, drama and many more performing arts talent. We hope that you are all excited about this competition and are looking forward to participating in this year’s Ciputra's Got Talent competition!

Another highlight that will be happening this semester is the Grade 10 Personal Project Exhibition that will be happening around the month of March. This year’s PP coordinator is Mr. Fery Dwi Noviyanto, a quote that the OSIS team got from Mr. Fery states that the “Personal Project is a gateway for students to develop their potential based on their personal interests. From here, they can combine different needed visible and invisible skills. The main goal to be achieved here is to serve ourselves, others, nature and science ( both now and the future). If we can be useful for others, why not? What are you waiting for?” Grade 11 and 12 students have been through the Personal Project and know how tough it can be but the Personal Project is also an very exciting project or aspect of the Middle Years Programme where students are able to choose their own interests on topics of their choice to be shown in their Personal Project. The Personal Project improves students skills with time-management, research, critical thinking and many more skills that will be very important once they graduate from the Middle Years Programme.

The OSIS team has also prepared more exciting and upcoming events that will be introduced in the coming months such as the Tournament of Eagles, Spirit Week, A Possibility of an Extension of Merchandise, Sustainability Project, and many more exciting events. We once again want to say that we hope everyone can come back to school and apply face to face learning. Moreover, the OSIS team would like to say Thank You for the biggest support you have all given to us. We would also like to say stay safe and stay healthy by applying the proper measures of health protocols that have been applied since the start of the pandemic.
