A Recap on Term 1, Volume 1: October!

Hi Eagles!

As the first term has ended, let’s recap some major events that have happened this term!

Before the school year started, the local health authorities, in collaboration with Universitas Ciputra, Sekolah Ciputra, and Sekolah Citra Berkat, distributed first doses of the CoronvaVac (Sinovac) vaccine to students above the age of 12 and graduates who were willing to receive it on July 22, 2021 on the campus of Universitas Ciputra. In total, there were around 800 students from both schools. Spare doses of the vaccine were distributed to the public. The second dose of the vaccine was distributed about a month afterwards, on August 23, 2021 and August 28, 2021.

Next, to kickstart the school year, we had an assembly at the very beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. The assembly consisted of speeches by both students and teachers, and served as an introduction and welcome to the new school year.

Fast forward to September 1, 2021, the school finally reopened for students using the HMI (Hybrid Model of Instruction), which meant that some students would be doing offline school, and some online. Students were able to meet their beloved familiar (or new) teachers and peers. Students who participated in the hybrid model of instruction were able to finally walk down the school halls for the first time since the pandemic happened.

Meanwhile, the government had announced a new replacement for UNAS (Ujian Nasional), which was mandatory for all students in grades 6, 9, and 12 before being cancelled in 2020. The new test, also known as AKM (Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum), requires the participation of 30 students from grade 5, and 45 students each from grades 8, and 11. The 45 students were randomly selected by the government and were encouraged to participate in the test, as the results would be used for evaluating the school. The test happened on 27-28 September, 2021 for grade 11 students; 4-5 October, 2021 for grade 8 students; unspecified dates predicted in November for grade 5 students.

Last but not least, October 5, 2021, also known as teacher’s day was a major event for the whole school community. This very day was dedicated to honoring and thanking teachers for their hard work and dedication that have helped form us, students into who we are today. Unfortunately, teacher’s day was on the mid-semester break, but we still wanted to show them our appreciation, so on the last day of term 1, October 1, 2021, the OSIS team pasted notes and posters written by students on the walls along the stairs in the high school building, as well as composed a video commemorating them for their hard work. Thank you, teachers!

Before the end of this article, our counselor, Ms. Thressye has a few words to say:

‘Did you know that October 10 is World Mental Health Day?' It is!

Mental Health Day is celebrated every year to raise awareness of the importance of wellbeing for all. This year, the WHO raises the theme of "Mental health care for all: let's make it a reality" to show that wellbeing care is needed for all, including adults and kids, teachers and students, you and me.

This month, we will also celebrate our wellbeing state, whatever it is. "Permission to (Release) Stress" is our theme, so you're given the full permission to (release) stress and also to celebrate failure! There will be a series of activities conducted this month. We will start it off with a special assembly today, Monday, 11 October 2021. Then, we also have two webinars with special guest speakers who will talk about mental health, stress, failure and how we can make the best out of them. All of us are also invited to do self-care missions and compete with the other homerooms to complete the most missions. The more missions you complete, the happier you will be, and the more chances you have to win a special prize to be shared with your homeroom.

Make sure you join the assembly today to know more about the missions. As a starter, prepare your phone and download GooseChase before or during the assembly. See you very soon and a permission to (release) stress starts now!

Cheers,

Your Counsellors & Welfare Team’

Without a doubt, term 1 has been a blast for each and every one of us. Let’s hope that term 2 will be even better, and that we can all strive to reach our goals. Good luck, everyone!
