A New Beginning with the Hybrid Model of Instruction, Volume 3: September!

Hi Eagles!

The school has just introduced us all to something completely new! Curious? Well, we can call this new system the Hybrid Model of Instruction (HMI), which combines online and offline learning simultaneously! Don’t you think it's exciting that after such a long wait, we can finally see our beloved teachers and friends face-to-face (or rather, mask-to-mask)?

With the excitement upon hearing this brilliant news, it is evident that careful measures must be taken in order to maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment. The school has started this hybrid simulation since early September, with grade 12’s going first. The hybrid simulation started by dividing students into 2 cohorts: cohort A and B. Cohorts were created to limit the amount of students who can come to school on the same day. The next simulation stage introduced other grades such as grade 8, 10 and 11. To enter the school, students must prepare multiple things, namely a consent form that has to be signed by their parents.

The school has advised all students (hopefully, including you!) who plan to join the school hybrid simulation to be fully vaccinated, to bring personal hand sanitizers, multiple face masks, refillable water bottles and all learning materials as outlined by their subject teachers. The school has also required students to sanitize their hands on multiple occasions: upon entry to the school building, upon entry to the classes, before leaving the classes, after using the restroom and before and after eating.

Talking about hand sanitizers, even though the school suggests you bring your personal hand sanitizers, the school has also provided them outside each classroom. Every student is expected to wear their masks at all times, practice proper hand hygiene and avoid touching his or her face. If students cough and/or sneeze, they should do it into a tissue to minimize the spread of droplets. But do take note that if you show any symptoms of COVID-19, you are expected to not participate in the hybrid model of instruction and should remain at home as to ensure the wellbeing of fellow students, teachers, and staff present at school.

Following up on protocols and safety measures that we all should take, consider the benefits of hybrid school and why it is highly encouraged for students to come back to school. Although the comfort of our homes has now become an accustomed environment, it certainly doesn’t beat the studious tenor of the classroom, especially being physically present and able to effectively absorb the teachings from our beloved teachers.

In addition to the overall learning ambience, the occurrence of actually going to school and having the occasion to meet your friends is something that we all look forward to. Don't you miss greeting your friends in the morning and catching up with the load of school work that’s given? Even so, classrooms with only a teacher wouldn’t be complete without the attendance of students.

Our beloved city, Surabaya, is currently in the green zone or level 1 of the COVID-19 assessment done by the ministry of health. Our positivity rate currently stands at 0.41% which is significantly below the maximum limit settled by the WHO (World Health Organization) (Date of Data: 16 September 2021). Active cases have also gone down drastically after several months from July 2021. With this great news we hope that all of you will feel much safer going back to school. But even though the COVID-19 situation in Surabaya has gone down drastically, please don’t forget to follow the safety protocols set by the government!

To conclude, OSIS sincerely hopes that all of you can participate in this hybrid school simulation as the hybrid school system will benefit both students and staff in various ways such as easier communication, socialization and acquiring knowledge. We hope that you can safely participate and try out the hybrid school simulation given that you have the permission to do so. We look forward to the success of this hybrid school simulation and we all hope that we can see your smiling faces all back in school!
